Government Funded Home Care, also known as Home Care Packages (HCP), is one of the ways that elderly Australians can acquire inexpensive home care services. They are intended for people who require more complex care that extends beyond the reach of the Commonwealth Home Support Program.

Eligibility for a HCP is established by an assessment of your care needs, but you also have to be:
a senior citizen who requires coordinating assistance to live comfortably in their home
or; a younger person with either a disability, dementia, or other specific care requirements that cannot be provided by existing speciality services.
Your eligibility for a HCP will not be impacted by your financial position – to determine how much funding you will be eligible to receive, you may need to undertake a financial evaluation.
You might not require a HCP, if you only require a minimal amount of assistance (such as one or two services). The Commonwealth Home Support Programme is also another option if this is the case.
